The Chiefs have ended their Search at Tailback
The price was reasonable -- I just wish he was a bit younger, but he has at least 2 - 4 years left... The fan response was overwhelmingly positive for the Chiefs and negative as regards the way the Jets treated Jones.
Jones appears to be a perfect complement for Jamaal Charles, so we likely have a "two headed RB monster"... We're building - but I just hope we fill a number of other requirements so we have flexibility heading into the draft... And we need to get us some play-makers: one at WR, one at TE, one at Safety and one at LB - unless D.J. steps up... Pioli may not be making many "splashes", but he is showing reason in his approach to the FA market. Too bad we have all of that money tied-up in Cassel, Dorsey and Tyson Jackson... RE: The Chiefs have ended their Search at Tailback
I'm ok with it, as we've discussed Jones is getting on in years but at least he didn't ask for the world and we have a guy we know can run the ball when Charles is tired or dinged up.
I read the Chiefs still went ahead and had their meeting with Fargas today, I don't know if he had a physical and whether he failed it or if they talked money or if Pioli told him the position was filled by Jones. It could be that Fargas told the Chiefs this morning that he was leaning towards the 49ers so he could stay in California, I for one would have preferred him over Jones due to his being 4yrs younger and a lot less wear and tear over the years. |

There ain't no cap hoss, therefore no escalators/penalties for cutting anyone with a cap number. Look at the house cleaning the deadskins did last week. Quitters never win. Winners never quit. But those who never win and never quit are idiots.

RE: The Chiefs have ended their Search at Tailback
Yup - I follow ya' Smooth! My sense of it is that budget is "finite", and even without a cap, the bucks invested in those three players is quite steep and would have been better used elsewhere. Dorsey is understandable since he is a holdover from the previous regime; I feel for him because he just does not fit in with this new regime - except for attitude and work-ethic. Cassel remains to be seen, but from what we have seen, he has done tittle to distinguish himself from being a journeyman QB... I actually would love to see more of Croyle - even after my "dissing" him!! As for Jackson - a lot of bucks for a role-player DE; particularly when other established options were available...
Smooth: I am just looking at this all from the "construct" of a new team and budgetary implications... WCF: I agree with your logic: I am happy with Jones - but would have favored Fargas - and for a number of reasons: younger, less dinged-up, gritty tough player - and most important: something to prove to Al Davis... |

Fargas is 4 yrs younger, but I would hardly call him "less dinged up." This guy has an injury history longer than Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones combined.
I think Jones was a solid choice that makes sense. |
