Thomas Jones to visit Kansas City

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 6, 2010 8:10 PM ET

If the New York Jets want to re-sign Thomas Jones, they'll need to out-bid the Kansas City Chiefs.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Jones will visit Kansas City on Monday.

Jones is coming off a 1,402-yard season, and the Jets would like to have him back. But they didn't want him back badly enough to pay him the $3.3 million roster bonus he was due before he was cut.

Sounds like Jones is pissed-off at the Jets - and he should be...

This would be a very interesting addition - but I doubt it would be to "back up" Jamaal Charles... To sign Jones, the Chiefs either will have to assure him he is the starter - or that the position is "open" going into OTA's and Training Camp... Jones like should be the RB - with Charles getting about 10 - 15 touches a game.

This would be a nice RB rotation -- I could live with it, but the question is whether Charles can... It will be interesting to see how this plays out...

The O-line did improve somewhat toward the latter part of the season - but we still have a LONG way to go if we want to be a real serious competitive team...

Jones is 32 years old, he's at the point in his career that he'll take where ever the best money is, no matter the role.

You may be thinking of his younger brother Julius, who plays for the Seahawks.

Yeah - something like that. I had him confused. Great numbers last year, but his age is a factor as we are rebuilding and should be looking at younger players... Good player, though...
